Academic & Non-Commercial Licence
Draft for launch. Operator details and governing law are being confirmed, and the text is under legal review. Questions in the meantime: contact us via dendrotrace.com.
Free for research, teaching, heritage, museums, public bodies and personal study. Commercial services need a commercial licence. Source-available — not an OSI open-source licence.
1. Grant
Subject to these conditions, the licensor grants you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use, run, copy, study and modify the Dendrotrace software and hosted Service, and to share unmodified or modified copies, for Permitted Purposes only.
2. Permitted Purposes
- Research and publication by universities, research institutes and individual researchers, including funded research projects.
- Teaching and training.
- Non-commercial heritage work by museums, archives, heritage agencies, charities and public-sector bodies, including their in-house dating of their own collections and buildings.
- Personal study and hobby use.
- Evaluation by anyone, for up to 60 days, before deciding on a commercial licence.
3. What needs a commercial licence
- Dating, appraisal, authentication or provenance work performed for a fee or as part of paid services.
- EUDR or other regulatory due-diligence services offered to operators or traders.
- Offering the software, or a modified version, as a hosted service to third parties.
- Bundling the software with hardware, instruments or other products for sale.
Commercial licences, including partner and revenue-sharing arrangements, are available on request.
4. Conditions
- Keep this licence and the copyright notice with every copy or substantial portion.
- Mark modified versions clearly as modified and do not present them as the official Dendrotrace.
- Cite Dendrotrace and the method version shown in exports when publishing results obtained with it.
- Third-party data and libraries keep their own licences.
5. Name and logo
This licence grants no rights in the Dendrotrace name or logo, except to identify the software truthfully.
6. Patents and termination
The licensor grants a licence under any of its patents necessarily infringed by the software, for Permitted Purposes only. If you assert a patent claim against the software, this licence ends.
If you breach this licence, it ends automatically. It is reinstated if you cure the breach within 30 days of notice and it is your first breach.
7. No warranty or liability
The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. The licensor is not liable for any damage arising from its use, to the extent permitted by law. Outputs are decision-support aids; see the Terms of Service.
